Why Bother With Male Sexual Health? |

As some male sexual health commercials for products like Viagra and enzyme keep rolling in front of my eyes, one has to wonder, why it is that the male sexual health is such an important issue. I remember reading one of the oldest books known to man, Plato’s The Republic, where Sophocles, when referring to his declining sexual health, was quoted as saying: “I’ve escaped from all that thank goodness. I feel as if I had escaped from a mad and furious slave driver.” However, today we can’t walk anywhere or listen to anything without being interrupted by some advertisement related to male sexual health. Who would have thought that at the age of 65 we would be going to the doctor for male sexual health problems, I mean, you would think that at this time in our lives male sexual health problems shouldn’t even be a passing thought. Am I wrong? Well, research says that I am.
The older we get, the more vigilant we must become about our health problems. Interestingly enough the male sexual health is directly correlated to many other health problems so that if one goes south the other will follow, but if the male sexual health is in good condition, then it’s a good bet that other things will follow suit. Having optimum male sexual health means, at least, that the male is capable of having good sexual relations and just by being able to perform sexually, males at any age can improve their physical and mental health. Sex can improve cardiovascular health. During in the act, some male sexual health hormones are released by the body having the secondary effect of protecting the heart. Hormones like adrenaline, noradrenalin, prolactin, DHEA and testosterone are all have “cardioprotective” effects in the body and are all markers of good male sexual health. In addition, after an orgasm, a hormone important for both male and female sexual health called Oxytocin helps lower blood pressure. Healthy blood pressure makes it less likely you’ll suffer from a heart attack or stroke. In fact, a male sexual health study done on over 900 men between the ages of 45 and 59, suggests that having sex two times or more per week can aid in preventing cardiac events, such as stroke and heart attack.
Most importantly, having good male sexual health can keep us happier well into old age. Sex prompts the body to release pain easing hormones like corticosteroids and endorphins that provide short-term relief for migraines, back pain or arthritis. These same endorphins can make us feel euphoric after having sex. And this doesn’t change as we get older. In fact, a small male and female sexual health study of 30 elderly women and men showed a correlation between sex and decreased risk of depression.
So as one can see, there are a lot of benefits for males of having excellent male sexual health. In today’s society we are living a lot longer and therefore we have to think about quality of life for a lot longer too. There are so many benefits of keeping good male sexual health that the question is not whether we should be bothered by it into long age, but whether we have done enough. Male sexual health is not just about sex. Yes, it starts with the ability to have good sexual relations, but sex is just the tip of the iceberg. We don’t need to go crazy buying pills, but men do need to be well informed and come up with a plan that will help maintain or create excellent male sexual health habits. Remember if we are going to be around for a while, we might as well make ourselves as comfortable as possible.
